Foxley Talent's latest role is with a respected non profit operating in the Open Source Ecosystem with a particular focus on supporting developer communities and building tools that help contributors thrive. They are seeking an experienced Python Developer to join a newly formed R&D team reporting directly to the leadership team.

This is a different kind of role to typical platform engineering work. This new R&D team is being set up to explore how AI tools can be used to prototype ideas quickly and push the best ones straight into production. The mission is simple "build things for the wider software community that make software better".

The Python developer who joins the team can expect a fast paced environment with regular context switching between projects. AI tools such as Claude and Copilot are part of the everyday workflow rather than an optional extra.

What You Will Do

• Prototype and ship Python and Django applications that test new ideas for growing and engaging the wider open source community
• Work closely with the President and VP to turn rough briefs into working software. Quickly
• Build integrations with LLM APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic and design pipelines that combine multiple AI services
• Contribute to content aggregation and feed processing systems that surface useful information to developers
• Move between projects regularly and own them end to end rather than work to a ticket queue
• Use AI augmented development practices to accelerate delivery without compromising on quality
• Deploy and maintain your own work

Skills and Experience

Required:

• 5+ years of hands on Django experience
• Strong Python fundamentals beyond the framework layer
• Real production experience building with LLM APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic and not just at the prototype stage
• Comfortable with AI augmented development workflows
• Self directed and able to take a rough brief and run with it
• Based in the US

Preferred:

• Experience with content aggregation scraping or feed processing
• Background in small team or founder adjacent environments
• Genuine drive and interest in the work.

Bonus:

• Frontend capability such as React for full stack work
• DevOps familiarity sufficient to deploy and maintain your own work
• Experience building systems that integrate multiple AI services in a pipeline
