Foxley Talent are partnering with an innovative fintech startup that’s transforming financial data automation using advanced AI and cloud technologies. Their platform delivers seamless insights and automation for complex financial workflows, making a real impact in the sector. As they scale, they’re building an engineering leadership team to drive both technical excellence and team growth.

The Role
This role is primarily a leadership position, ideal for a Senior Backend Engineer stepping into a Tech Lead or Lead Developer role. You’ll guide the backend team, drive technical strategy, and influence engineering culture while continuing to contribute hands-on to critical systems. The ideal candidate is someone who’s passionate about leadership and mentorship, thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, and is excited about growing into a senior engineering leadership role (potentially as Director of Engineering) in the near future.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and mentor a growing engineering team, fostering collaboration, code quality, and best practices
  • Take ownership of backend architecture and development, primarily using Python/Django
  • Work closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to align engineering efforts with company goals
  • Guide the team’s AWS infrastructure and Terraform configurations, helping shape scalable and reliable cloud deployments
  • Champion engineering initiatives that support rapid scaling and operational efficiency
  • Influence recruitment, onboarding, and career development within the engineering function
  • Stay involved in hands-on development while growing your leadership impact
  • Explore and help integrate advanced AI workflows, including LLM powered systems and RAG pipelines

What We’re Looking For

  • 6–10 years of software engineering experience with a demonstrated progression into leadership or tech lead roles
  • Strong backend expertise in Python and Django, with experience leading projects or teams in startup environments
  • Hands-on familiarity with AWS and Terraform, with the ability to oversee cloud infrastructure and deployment strategies
  • Experience mentoring and influencing engineering teams
  • A background that includes working at both larger organizations (building foundational management skills) and startups (wearing multiple hats during growth) is highly desirable
  • Exposure to AI-driven backend systems or complex data workflows is a bonus
  • A proactive, growth-oriented mindset ready to take on increasing leadership responsibility and help build a high-impact engineering culture

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary between $150,000 - $200k
  • Fully REMOTE based role (Within US ONLY)
