During DjangoCon US, I had the pleasure of speaking to Sheena O’Connell who gave the keynote on the first day of the conference. This was titled Power to the People who Teach the People”

Sheena’s talk was totally inspiring, and the audience were captivated. During the rest of the conference when asking attendees which talk they enjoyed most people referenced Sheena’s Keynote.

Personally, I don’t have to be sold on the value of teaching. Both my parents were teachers and one of my brothers has followed that path too. It takes a special kind of person to teach… I know I couldn’t do it!

Since the conference, Sheena has announced that she has founded the Guild of Educators, a space where tech educators can connect, share evidence-based teaching techniques, and grow their skills.

Focused on software development training, the Guild will offer resources and opportunities for educators to refine their craft and inspire better learning experiences. Building a stronger foundation for tech education.

“Teaching is an amazing thing, you can change a person's life just by spending some time with them, having conversations, showing them stuff”

Sheena O'Connell

The Guild of Educators isn't the only new venture that Sheena has been working on. There is also the Tech Education arm of her journey in tech education, Prelude!

"At Prelude, we're on a mission to make tech education better for everyone. We believe that with the right support, educators can thrive, and learners can achieve incredible things. Our passion for teaching drives us to empower educators, guide education providers, and offer life-changing technical training."

Good Luck with everything Sheena!

What will the course involve?

Once upon a time, if you wanted a truly modern web frontend experience for your Python web app you would have limited options. Many people would reach for heavy frontend tools and frameworks such as React, Vue or one of their many competitors.

Times have changed - tools like HTMX and AlpineJS are taking Python Web development by storm and simplifying the creation of modern frontends.

These tools make full-stack web development fast and fun, they simplify development, shrink code bases, and give backend developers the ability to do modern frontend work. The adoption of these tools leads to massive productivity gains for junior and senior developers alike.

This highly practical, expert led, weekend long workshop will walk you through the process of building and testing your own unique CRUD application with a rich and modern frontend.

The class size will be kept small so that everyone gets the attention they deserve.
